Transportation Specialist

Position Summary

Reporting to the Distribution Manager, the Transportation Specialist is responsible for coordinating inbound and outbound shipments throughout Canada and the US. The coordinator is expected to build and maintain relationships with various transportation companies and will work closely with Customer Service.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain delivery schedules and track deliveries to ensure deliveries are met
• Liaise with rail and truck carriers to schedule TL (truck loads) and LTL (less than truck loads) shipments to our customers through-out North America
• Coordinate inbound shipments from sub-contractors and any return of goods from our
  customers
• Re-confirm scheduled pickup with carriers to ensure shipments are being picked up accordingly
• Update scheduled pickup and delivery information into our tracking system
• Adjust AP / AR rates
• Source new freight companies and receive quotes for rate comparisons
• Work with carriers on charge backs and solidify approval to do so
• From time to time coordinate light weight ground and air courier shipments
• Act as backup to Traffic Manager with getting rate calculations and other duties as required
• Additional duties, as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

• Post-secondary experience required, preferably in logistics
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role
• Strong knowledge and experience in both SAP and JDA preferred
• Team oriented, quick learner, with strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
• Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work autonomously and with little direction
• Exhibit a sense of urgency and be able to demonstrate the ability to solve problems in a fast paces environment
• Strong customer service and administrative skills required
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
