Our client is a leader in cold-forming technology and is one of the largest producers of cold-formed parts in North America.
We are looking for a tool maker with good experience repairing/maintaining progressive dies who is proficient with 3D modelling, preferably SolidWorks. This person would be involved in tooling design but would not be repairing or maintaining progressive dies.
Key Attributes (must haves):
- must have actual shop floor experience with metal stamping equipment
- must have actual stamping tooling/progressive die design experience
- must have extensive experience in metal stamping including with integration tooling involved in stamping and assembly cells
- must be prepared and able to travel to customer and supplier locations as required
- must have the project management skills to acquire the necessary components for each installation project and lead it to completion within timeline
- must have mechanical aptitude to assemble/install/replace/modify components and troubleshoot as required
Job Description:
- Primary liaison for customers, suppliers and company personnel re: product integration and equipment installation
- Review projects with customer from concept to execution
- Preparation of prototype samples for preliminary, functional testing by customer at their facility
- Design of installation tooling for company pierce and clinch products
- Integration of installation tooling within existing press (metal stamping) tooling
- Integration of control systems
- Design of prototype installation tooling
- Implementation of installation tooling at customer location
- Train, troubleshoot customer operators and operation
- Active in R&D of installation tool design, performance enhancement initiatives
- Participate in the installation and testing of assemblies
- Conduct analysis of performance results and prepare detailed reports
- Perform field inspection of customer operation and trouble shoot
- Perform prototype installation at company facilities
- Assist in sample preparation
- Assist and communicate with sales and sales engineering teams on projects
- Maintain and update electronic administrative and technical files including the management of integration tooling
- Research into potential sources of manufacturing of tooling, feed systems and controls in different regions of the world.
- Visit suppliers evaluate their manufacturing and quality capabilities
- Develop relationship and cost structure of using manufacturing sources for different projects
Qualifications, Experience and Education:
- Minimum 2 years, related experience with metal stamping/forming tooling and equipment in the manufacturing environment
- Proficient with 3D CAD software, preferably Solidworks or AutoCAD
- Able to travel to customer and supplier locations primarily in the Greater Detroit Area and neighboring states but occasionally to other North American and overseas locations
- Legally entitled to work in U.S.A. and Canada; Eligible to enter all countries having current and prospective customers
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational abilities to establish and maintain positive relations with customer, supplier and internal contacts
- Related degree from a university/college (mechanical engineering) or technical school (tool & die)
- Working knowledge of automation (PLC functionality) and the integration of additional components onto existing equipment (preferably metal stamping presses)
- Proficient in Windows, MS (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint) and Adobe software applications
- Able to function both independent of direct supervision and within a structured, reporting system
Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 annually
