Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Automation Engineer to support plant operations, automation systems, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role will work closely with production, maintenance, and quality teams to optimize equipment performance, enhance system reliability, and drive operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain PLC programs and HMI systems
- Support installation, commissioning, and testing of manufacturing equipment
- Lead and coordinate automation and electrical projects, including contractors
- Develop and improve preventive maintenance procedures
- Maintain electrical control systems and instrumentation management processes
- Troubleshoot technical issues and conduct root cause analysis
- Collaborate cross-functionally to improve equipment reliability and performance
- Identify and implement energy efficiency and cost optimization initiatives
- Analyze production data to support continuous improvement efforts
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required)
- 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience with electrical equipment, automation, and instrumentation
- Strong experience with PLC programming and HMI systems
- Knowledge of power distribution systems (transformers, switchgear, UPS)
- Experience with VFDs, valves, pumps, conveyors, and industrial equipment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ERP/CMMS experience is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Strong time management and organizational abilities
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies
Working Conditions
- Monday to Friday, standard office hours (8:30 AM - 5:30 PM)
- Occasional flexibility required for evenings/weekends due to operational needs
- Fully onsite role in Kingston, ON
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary: $82,000 - $92,000
