A leading automotive manufacturing company is seeking a highly motivated health and safety professional to join their team.
Full Time, Permanent
Onsite - Mississauga, ON.
Responsibilities:
- Implements and maintains all Health & Safety / Environmental policies and procedures as per the OH&S and other relevant Federal, Provincial or internal requirements.
- Champions the H&S, Environmental, Ergonomics Assessment and related Inspections and Audits and resulting Action Plans.
- Champions the HWIN (Waste Manifests, account upkeep with the Ministry etc.), NPRI, TRA, ECA applications / upkeep, including all legal aspects & reporting of all of the same.
- WSIB claims and lost time statistics and timely submission of the WSIB Form 7, applications for SIEF addressing objections and follow-up.
- Make studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
- Inspect or tour organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated.
- Active member of company Safety Group ensuring compliance with WSIB Workwell Audit and practices,communication of Best Practices, attends all meetings
- Liaison with Company Nurse to manage the Modified Work Program along with the Disability Claims in order to facilitate the employee’s return to work on a timely basis as well as supplying necessary information for applications for SIEF, addressing objections and follow-up letters to employees.
- Arranges H&S / Ergonomics Meetings, notifies members, participates as a Joint Health & Safety member, as well as sets up / records meeting minutes / initiates monthly workplace inspections.
- Sets up / ensures completion of Workplace Inspections for all departments.
- Assist in monitoring contracts for employee PPE including uniforms, safety glasses, earplugs etc.
- Arranges / delivers in house Safety / Environment/Ergonomic training.
- Maintains / updates online SDS, providing hard copy for easy access ensuring compliance and accurate purchasing process has been followed.
- Demonstrates Continuous Improvement through investigating / recommending Best Practices for all areas of Ergonomics / Safety / Environment in order to put in place once established system decided upon.
- Sets example, enforces, and takes a proactive approach to enforce safe working conditions for all employees.
- Maintains / updates any binders / databases for Safety / Environment / Ergonomics including preparation and
- submission of reports / Action Plans as per Audit / Inspection requirements.
- Maintains and updates safety / environment training matrix, records requirements / dates of courses and books/ notifies employees accordingly.
- Cross-functional training of tasks in Human Resources Department.
Core Competencies:
- Thorough knowledge and application of Federal/Provincial Regulations Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, (OH&SA), Canada Standards Act (CSA), Environmental Standards, Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Workers’ Compensation Standards Act as well as any other applicable regulations to meet H&S/Environment Regulations.
- Thorough knowledge of all related reporting obligations for H&S,Enviro, Ergo, WSIB.
- Effective time management, organizational and problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively transfer knowledge to a diverse group of learners.
- Must be able to coach, facilitate and influence a cultural and behavioral change in the workplace.
- Proven experience working in a team.
Skills, Experience and Education:
- Undergraduate degree in related field preferred in order to perform all aspects of tasks.
- Minimum 4-5 years progressive health & safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills including Excel, Word, and Database capabilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Industrial Ergonomics is an asset.
- Strong shop-floor presence with the ability to identify and address safety concerns proactively.
- CRSP certification is preferred but not required (working towards certification is acceptable).
