Director, Engineering

Our client, a leading skincare and beauty company, currently is looking for a Director of Engineering to join our team on a full-time and permanent basis.

  • Base out of our production facility, on-site 5 days a week.
  • Competitive compensation package plus 20%, based on performance and with 4 weeks of work from anywhere per year.
  • Working Hours: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications:

●         Highly strategic and analytical in planning and resolving process development challenges

●        Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

●        Excellent judgment skills, ability to think critically and creatively

●        Strong experience in working with third party contract manufacturers and vendors

●        Exemplary interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of team members and stakeholders

●        More than comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

●        Agile, flexible and strong ability to pivot work/approach based on business needs

●        Strong background in finance and project management. Experience in managing complex projects, with accountability towards major CAPEX/OPEX budgets

●        Detail oriented and encourages others to hold themselves to higher standards of accountability

●        Ability to work with all locations, globally, in very diverse work environments - distribution centers, warehouses, production facilities, labs, offices, retail, etc.

●        Ability to manage competing priorities from multiple stakeholders with challenging time constraints

●        Demonstrated software system skills, specifically in the use of spreadsheets, database programs, data analysis and metrics reporting (AutoCAD, etc.)

●        15+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with high level of expertise in a cosmetics, pharma, food environment

●        Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,  Industrial Engineering or related field in engineering or related discipline and experience

●        P.Eng Designation is considered a must

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Operational and Strategic Leadership 

●        Establish and maintain the strategic vision for manufacturing engineering in accordance with company and department OKRs

●        Set the tone for process optimization; identify opportunities to improve process efficiencies, improve the quality of our products

●        Process optimization by conducting regular assessments, designing and testing new equipment and systems

●        Support new product development, yielding quality and process data, in alignment with engineering and manufacturing strategy

●        Engage SCM and engineering teams to identify third party suppliers, equipment and materials

●        Responsible for capital expenditure plan and budget for engineering and equipment components

●        Redefine our engineering cost-effectiveness and implementation workflows: ensure appropriate line-layout, fixtures and equipment are contributing to the business operations as intended

●        Manage the financial reporting process for equipment and engineering components reflected on the CAPEX/OPEX budgets. Conduct deep-dives into manufacturing finances that illustrate  asset management (equipment depreciation, etc.)

●        Create progressive strategies to reduce cost, estimate capacity limits and protect labourforce

●        Work closely with the Quality and Validation (VTT) teams to identify issues, analyze potential or existing failures and implement corrective actions

●        Clearly define engineering KPI’s to drive Continuous Improvement within the engineering process and across the production-specific locations, TPM’s and with SCM stakeholders

●        Host engineering  inspections, support ISO certification processes and third party audits

●        Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards for facilities and equipment reliability. Partner with Maintenance and VTT groups for compliance measures, analysis, and results

●        Evaluate, purchase and install all equipment for Manufacturing and Warehouse locations

●        Perform other duties as assigned

 

Engineering Leadership

●        Act the lead, technical expert in developing the manufacturing and process engineers, in addition to the validation of manufacturing practices

●        Spearhead the efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement processes across all applicable manufacturing facilities

●        Lead a team of engineers and process specialists to drive operational excellence, innovation and cost-reduction in our manufacturing practices

 

Sustainability, Social Impact, and DE&I

●        Collaborate with the sustainability and social impact team and diversity, equity and inclusion team to incorporate our approach into department strategies and decisions.

●        Empower team to ensure sustainability, social impact, and diversity, equity & inclusion are incorporated into project planning and project review.

●        Collaborate with sustainability to ensure that equipment, engineering and manufacturing processes are designed and executed with minimum carbon footprint and waste reduction.

 

Safety, Security, Compliance,  and SOX

●        Safeguard DECIEM Engineering Network and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols

●        Ensure that the engineering practices follow all EH&S policies and procedures by following and enforcing DECIEM policies for workplace safety and conducting regular safety audits

●        Conduct regular safety audits to maintain high standards of workplace safety

●        Ensure compliance with SOX and establish rigorous financial reporting controls within the engineering and manufacturing operations.

●        Ensure the ongoing design, execution, and effectiveness of all SOX controls within the role's span of control

●        Ensure all required documentation related to underlying reports, SOX control performance, and review steps, is complete, accurate, and updated

●        Regularly connect with Global Process Owners (GPOs) for any questions on SOX control design, including best practice sharing

●        Identify and communicate SOX control changes as necessary to the Global Process Owner (GPO) for review and alignment. Once approved, update the SOX control design through the quarterly SOX Control Design Assessment process

●        Accountable for SOX controls working as designed, performed consistently, and timely to ensure financial risk is mitigated

●        For any deficiencies noted, design and implement action plan to sustainably remediate deficiency

●        Support management and independent testing as appropriate.
