HR Generalist / Human Resources

Our client is a leading manufacturer of food packaging, is looking for an HR Generalist for their London Facility.

  • Salary: $70,000/year
  • Contract Position: Full-time for the maternity leave duration (one year)
  • Working location: London, ON
  • Reports to Director of HR in Richmond Hill head office and London Plant Manager

Human Resources Generalist is responsible for planning, executing, directing and coordinating Human Resource and EHS functions at the plant level relating to employment, benefits (including group insurance and retirement plans), employee relations, employee health and safety, workers' compensation, Plant EHS, wage and salary administration, and training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complies with all EHS policies, procedures and safe work instructions in place. Complies with SOX audit requirements.
  • Maintains, develops, and directs staff as appropriate to size of plant.
  • Carries out plant employment and placement functions including recruiting, screening and making recommendations for hire.
  • Participates in and ensures that effective orientation of new employees is conducted.
  • Assists Plant Manager to develop training programs, as well as maintaining processes for identifying and flagging training needs for employees.
  • Administers employee benefit plans such as retirement and group health and welfare benefit programs.
  • Assists the Health and Safety Coordinator in implementing the plant's safety program including required OSHA training; initiates changes as necessary to ensure maximum effectiveness.
  • Ensures an effective plant attendance control program, advises and assists in the handling of employee performance and behavior problems, including effective discipline procedures.
  • Ensures that all records and reports are prepared as required, as well as all personnel records maintained in compliance with company policy and government regulations.
  • Compiles and maintains monthly personnel statistics related to turnover, absenteeism and safety, and reports to Corporate Human Resources as requested.
  • Ensures the efficient reporting of pay data to payroll and to maintain a current reliable employee database.
  • Oversees and manages an effective employee communications program; recommends and initiates changes for improvements.
  • Serves as a resource for employees relative to personal or job-related problems.

 

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • College diploma or higher required in the area of discipline.
  • 3 - 5 years experience in Human Resources
  • Demonstrate track record of achieving success with the ability to multi-task under pressure, meet deadlines
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Experience in labour relations or union environment is an asset
  • Detailed and Energetic
  • Contract length: 12 months
