Rolling Mill Leadhand (Concord) (Dufferin & Langstaff)

RESPONSIBILITIES/EFFORTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

•    Coordinates activities in accordance with daily production schedule.
•    Sets up or assists in setting up of rolling mill dies and material, testing and adjusting guides, fixtures and other aspects of work station, until it is production ready.
•    Conducts test runs and measurements to ensure pieces and parts produced meet required specifications.
•    Responsible for first and last off approval.
•    Performs duties of rolling mill operator, as follows:
•    Operation of Rolling Mill as per instructions.  Ensures counter is re-set to zero at the start of production.  Makes visual safety inspection of machine at start of shift.
•    Tags each container at machine and fills each container with number or parts shown on production order.    
•    Inspects parts according to Quality Control Inspection Instructions, including use of S.P.C.
•    Completes production sheet at end of run and/or end of shift.  Re-sets counter to zero.
•    Required to load material into Rolling Mill using hoist or other equipment, as per instructions. Spot-welds together the end of the used coil and the beginning of the new coil. Grinds welded area to accepted quality.  Starts up Rolling Mull and ensures welded area passes through machine without breaking.  Thereafter, monitors machine and ensure only good quality parts are produced, as per established standard.    
•    Reports any abnormalities of parts or machine to the Supervisor immediately.  Suggests corrective action where applicable.
•    Maintains work area and machine in a clean, tidy and safe manner.  Co-operates with Safety Committee and adheres to all plant safety and housekeeping rules and policies, including wearing of Personal Protective Equipment.
•    Perform employee safety observations.
•    Comply with Section 27 of the OHSA.
•    Conduct regular safety talks.
•    Be involved with accident/incident investigation process.
•    Perform regular workplace inspections.
•    Correct unsafe acts or conditions.
•    Commend or correct health and safety performance.
•    Train new employee on Job Specific Hazards.
•    Must be able to lead team in group problem solving towards continuous improvement.
•    Responsible for proper handling, storage and disposal of all chemicals, used materials and equipment.
•    Inventory control / reporting cycle count.
•    Responsible for housekeeping of entire work area – ceiling to floor.  Ensure all team members have access to housekeeping materials.
•    Adhere to all applicable Business Operating Systems procedures.
•    Adhere to all rules and regulations as outlined in the Rollstamp Employee Handbook.
•    Any other reasonable request made by Management.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

•    Grade 12 level education or equivalent years of work experience.
•    Basic working knowledge of English, verbal and written.
•    Basic mathematical skills
•    Minimum 8 years experience as rolling mill operator.
•    Ability to judge conformance or parts to specifications.
•    Ability to work and communicate well with others.
•    Die set-up / rolling mill set-up.
•    Forklift safety.
•    Must be able to lead team in group problem solving towards continuous improvement.
•    Analyze defects, gather information, diagnose problems and make decisions.
•    Must be able to work as an effective Leadhand and provide leadership support for production, labour and problem solving.
