Health, Safety and Environmental Specialist

Our client is a leading Automotive Tier 1 supplier is in the Design, Development and Production of plastic automotive systems and components for OEMs worldwide. Currently, we are looking for a Health, Safety and Environmental Specialist to join the team.

Location: Etobicoke

Job Type: Full-Time       

Reporting to the General Manager and Director, Health, Safety and Environmental, the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Specialist is responsible for supporting and facilitating the implementation of environment, health and safety programs designed to assure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements in a manufacturing facility. The HSE will establish and promote the maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions and recommends measures to reduce or eliminate industrial accident(s) and health hazards in compliance with regulations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Partners with site leadership to improve safety programs by evaluating existing programs, identifying areas of concern and implementing solutions.
  • Develops, implements and monitors Health and Safety and Environmental (HSE) programs at the site to ensure compliance with local regulations and company standards.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of site-specific HSE goals and targets. Produces monthly analysis of safety documentation and statistics.
  • Reviews and follows-up to ensure proper documentation is completed and corrective action and root cause analyses are taken.
  • Assists site managers in the completion of periodic occupational health and safety hazard and risk assessments and ensures that all corrective actions are completed.
  • Conducts Health & Safety compliance and system audits for facilities in Canada.
  • Performs the incident investigation process and maintains accident prevention activities across the site.
  • Maintains safety records, statistical data, and information including, but not limited to, safety manuals and site-specific safety programs.
  • Liaises with corporate HSE to develop and implement site-specific training plans. Facilitates H&S training sessions at the site.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

Minimum Qualifications:

  • University or college diploma in occupational health and safety or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in industrial health and safety or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Sound knowledge on environmental, health and safety management (ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001/ 45001).
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and risk assessment processes.
  • Ability to drive change and assist in building a leading class safety culture.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in manufacturing (automotive).
  • CSP, CRM, CRSP and/or CHSC designation.
