Production Supervisor (Night Shift)

Our client, a leading manufacturer of fluid flow systems, is looking for a night shift production supervisor to join their team in Scarbrough, ON. We are looking for candidate has 5+ years manufacturing experience at team leadership with strong Health and Safety and WHMIS knowledge, working knowledge with ERP system and quaility assurance skills. 

Location: Scarborough, ON

Shift time: 11pm to 7am (Night Shift)

Salary: around 60K (Depends on experience)

Reporting to: Production Manager

 

JOB SUMMARY: This position reports directly to the Production Manager. The role is to directly supervise and co-ordinate the activities of production and operating employees within a designated area of responsibility.

Key to the success of the position is to meet the business production targets which may includesafety, quality, schedule and cost adherence. This position is a leader and role model to their teams in safety and quality while maintaining a sense of urgency in activities. This position will facilitate training and mentoring of team members and will provide the necessary leadership, support and communication required for each team member to perform at their best.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Comply with health and safety laws and regulations; promote and foster a safety culture
    within the work area.This includes but is not limited to:
    • Inform workers of known potential or actual hazards and dangers in the workplace and respond to their concerns of hazards and dangers.
    • Provide training and instruction on procedures in the protection of workers
    • Ensure workers follow the law and the company’s health and safety policies and
      procedures, including ensure workers wear or use the correct protective
      equipment, devices or clothing.
    • Take every reasonable precaution to protect the worker.
  • Direct, train and performance manage the work area team members. Key metrics
    include, but are not limited to: Safety improvements, delivery on time, plant effectivity,
    quality and environmental policy conformance.
  • Effectively communicate information pertaining to the work area and business.
    Communication must be enabled and maintained by the supervisor position.
  • Collect, analyze and control metrics of the performance of the work area. Ensure that
    corrective countermeasures are implemented and effective.
  • Maintain and complete ERP/system transactions in relation to production activities as
    required.
  • Ensure that teams are suitably supported to meet their assigned goals and are capable
    of monitoring and controlling these goals.
  • Lead continual improvement in the work area, providing support in empowering teams to contribute in the continual improvement process.
  • Manage cost center expense budget for designated area to ensure expenditures and
    labor payroll is within plan.
  • Ensure that security and lost prevention requirements are complied with.
  • Ensure that the quality of the product being manufactured is compliant to the requirements of the end customer as well as direct downstream customers.
  • Manage the multi-skilling of the team members and their personal development within
    their roles.
  • Promote the development and adherence to the work activity standards, procedures and
    instructions.
  • Provide problem solving support to designated work area teams.
  • Provide a consistent level of leadership to the work area teams.
  • Collaborate with other supervisors and peers within the business.
  • Perform regular workplace inspections for quality, safety, security and continuous improvement.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND:

  • OHSA – A supervisor must have successfully completed certified training (parts 1 and 2) in the Ontario Health and Safety Act and Regulations - Manufacturing
  • WHMIS – A supervisor must have demonstrable knowledge of WHMIS/GHS to be able to inform and train his team members about hazardous material.
  • Crane – A supervisor must have undergone overhead and jib crane theoretical training as a minimum.
  • ERP System experience – A supervisor must have strong computer skills and ERP system understanding to be able to perform the necessary activities required with the position (e.g. maintain hours of accounting, post completed orders)
  • Quality – A supervisor must have knowledge and awareness of the company's internal quality and environmental systems.
  • Factory Planner – A supervisor must have comprehensive scheduling experience to manage production coordination
  • Must have 5 years’ experience at team leadership.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Strong time management skills, to manage time to support team members as well as drive the production schedule and support business needs in the role.
  • Have the initiative and aptitude to be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision on daily activities.
  • Have a flexible attitude to coach a dynamic & fast-paced team.
