Controls Engineer -Global Automotive Manufacturer

POSITION SUMMARY:

To increase uptime, throughput, efficiency and quality, through the process of maintaining, designing, developing and continuously improving our equipment and the utilization of technology to ensure the best quality frames are produced

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Ensure up to date backups for PLC’s, HMI’s, Robots and any other digital controller in the plant.

• Assist in proper electrical documentation of control systems and power distribution.

• Prepare drafts and cost justification for C I projects.

• Performing Continuous Improvement activities to improve safety, to increase productivity and to reduce production cost, by development and improvement of electrical control systems, PLC, HMI & Robots programming including design, implementation and troubleshooting.

• Maintain awareness of existing and emerging technologies in PLC, Robots, and instrumentation and computer systems.

• Provide training and guidance to maintenance personnel related to control systems.

• Consider safety as top priority in design and implementation of any control system.

• Assist the maintenance department in the troubleshooting and repair of electrical problems when required.

• Assisting in developing of PM strategies and identify areas of improvement within the control system infrastructure.

• Assist other maintenance staff in identifying and procuring equipment and parts necessary for daily maintenance requirements.

• Follow Electrical Code to create electrical diagram.

• Participation in pre-design reviews for new machinery.

• Direct contractors and / or employees to implement control system projects and maintenance.

• Work safely and follow all safety rules at all times.

• Report any unsafe or unhealthy conditions immediately.

• Know and understand all company, Federal, State and Local legislated duties.

• Play an active role in maintaining housekeeping in the area and ensure that area of responsibility is clean, tidy and organized at all times.

• Attend training as required or as assigned.

• Know what to do in an emergency.

• Know the operating instructions for all equipment and processes where you are assigned. Know the pre start-up inspection process, hazards, protective measures, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, start and stop procedures and equipment limitations.

• Attend all physical examinations and tests including those required for respirator use and hearing protection.

• Be knowledgeable about any chemicals that you work with or that are in your immediate environment.

• Wear required PPE such as safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, aprons, respirators and head protection.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.

• Licensed Industrial Electrician – with apprenticeship.

• Minimum 7 years experience in automotive and manufacturing environment

• Fluent in English, written and oral

• Strong Knowledge of

a) Robotics, control systems and machine operation with hands-on experience.

b) Configuration/programming of PLC's, HMI’s, Robots and other digital control systems.

c) Allen-Bradley PLC’s and HMI’s.

d) RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, RSLinx, RSNetworx, Factory Talk View (RSView) , Panel Builder 32.

e) DeviceNet, ControlNet, Ether/IP. f) Selection of electrical and controls Hardware and Software components.

g) Strong programming, mechanical and electrical problem solving skills.

h) Knowledge of Electrical Code.

i) Resistance Welding cells and Assembly lines.

j) Microsoft Office, Windows, Auto Cad
