Human Resource Generalist

Our client is a leading supplier of stampings, hinges, door checks and mechatronic products to the North American automotive industry. Currently we are looking for a Human Resources Generalist who will report to the Human Resources Manager, and be responsible for improving the competitiveness and profitability of the company by ensuring the hiring of qualified and experienced personnel, by coaching and mentoring new employees and by providing the appropriate training plans for existing employees and working harmoniously with all departments.

Plant location:  Concord, ON 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Recruitment of  hourly/salary employees while maintaining compliance with federal and provincial regulations concerning employment. Refers applicants to plant supervisory for interview and approval. Assuring that properly qualified employees are hired and staffing is maintained to cover production requirements.
  2. Investigates references and handles details of employee orientation, and on-boarding
    Participates in disciplinary and termination action of employees with the direction of the Human Resource Manager. Keeps managers and supervisors informed of significant problems that may jeopardize the achievement of company objectives.
  3. Schedule and organize the new hire orientation training with the HR group as per standard agenda
  4. Ensure timely completion of accident and incident reports, keep records of the same.
  5. Ensure that annual hearing tests are completed and hearing conservation methods are followed.
  6. Liaison with fire safety consultants on safety issues including fire evacuation procedure and drills to be completed as necessary.
  7. Manage vendor contracts such as uniforms, contract employment agencies, safety purchases, (first aid supplies) including inventory management and distribution.
    Plan, organized, and schedules plant training including 1st Aid, Forklift/Material Handling equipment, WHIMS, and OHSA, health and safety training as required.
  8. Liaison with Kaizen teams, trainers, external consultants, cross divisional Kaizen co-ordinations as required.
  9. Ensure schedule, attendance and record keeping of regular Health and Safety committee meetings
  10. Schedule and provide agenda to participating managers for monthly employee meetings
    Implement and maintain employee new hire orientation training programs to assure maximum effectiveness.
  11. Participates in developing department goals, support production needs, coordinates employee relation programs and facilitate special projects.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Human Resources Management or related field. 
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in automotive manufacturing personnel-related activities
  • Ability to coach employees at all levels through difficult situations, ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve issues using judgement consistent with the organizations preferences and priorities
  • Ability to speak and present effectively before groups of customers and employees of the organization
  • Ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful, mature and flexible.
  • Ability to handle all levels of employee discipline including termination.
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive
  • Experience with TS16949/ISO14001 systems an asset
