Manufacturing Engineering Technician

Our client is a leading satellite products manufacturing company, currently looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Technician to join the team. 

 

Location: Whitby, ON

Manufacturing experience required

Benefits immediately/ pension after 3 months

Salary:55-65K/ year

Permanent full-time position

 

Position Overview: 

The Manufacturing Engineering Technician will be responsible for assisting with the development of motorization and environmental control systems.  The individual will be involved with designing, integrating, prototyping, troubleshooting, and testing new products from the conceptual stage to production.  The Engineering Technician will work with the manufacturing team to introduce new designs and provide ongoing support and maintenance of the company standard products.

 

Job duties: 

• Prepare functional specifications and assist with equipment selection and procurement
• Create schematics, block diagrams, assembly documentation, BOMs, and acceptance test procedures for motorization control panels and environmental accessories
• Design, build and test prototype equipment while working closely with software engineers to ensure compatibility between hardware and software features, and ensure all design requirements are met
• Assist technical support team with troubleshooting customer issues at installations worldwide
• Work with technical writing team to develop manuals, brochures, and marketing materials for new products
• Occasional work on heights and outdoors could be necessary

 

Job Requirements:

• Relevant post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering, Satellite Communications, Systems Design, Automation, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or 2+ years of relevant work experience
• Understanding of motor controls, feedback components, design tradeoffs, and physical practicalities/limitations
• Understanding of modern electromechanical control theory, electronic circuit design and troubleshooting to component level, including PCB assemblies
• Must possess basic skills required to document design changes and new products
• Understanding of industrial environments, engineering and production processes
• Ability to investigate performance issues, trouble-shoot, and recommend corrective actions
• Proficient with basic electrical test equipment and tools (multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering irons, crimp tools, etc.)
• Capable of building and debugging test fixtures, cables, and electrical circuits. Capable of training factory personnel in the same
• Experienced with automation and industrial control equipment (relays, circuit breakers, transformers, variable frequency drives, motors, encoders, cable, connectors, etc.)
• Ability to derive component-level functional requirements to achieve specified system-level performance
• Knowledge of low level PCB control electronics and embedded microprocessors. Familiar with microprocessor-based signaling such as digital I/O, analog to digital circuits, and serial busses.
• Knowledge of data communication standards such as Ethernet, RS232, RS485 and understanding of physical transmission mediums
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Must be eager to learn and take direction from others while completing tasks in a timely manner
• Must be a team player but also be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision
• Must possess good organizational skills
• Must be comfortable working with heavy equipment
• Knowledge of Satellite Earth station antennas and control systems
• Proficient with AutoCAD, DraftSight, or similar 2D CAD program for creating wiring schematics, block diagrams, assembly and installation drawings
• Familiarity with requirements of UL 508 standard for Industrial Control Equipment, NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, and IEC 60950-1 Safety standards
• PCB design experience using Cadsoft Eagle Pro a plus
• Experience with SAP Enterprise Resource Planning software

 

Work Conditions:

• Travel may be required.
• Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
• Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
• Overtime as required.
