We are looking for a HR/Labour Relations Manager for a manufacturer company for Toronto Plant.
Location: Concord, ON
This is a 12 – 18 month contract role to cover a mat leave that starts in November. There is a potential that this role may become permanent
Responsibilities:
- Oversight of the HR function for the Toronto unionized manufacturing plant.
- Ensure alignment and delivery of Human Resources programs focused on enhancing organizational performance, depth of talent, employee productivity and cost/reliability.
- Proactively consult with plant leadership team on a regular basis to ensure that practices are being adhered to and that effective human resources planning is taking place.
- Explore trends, innovation and best practices in the field of talent acquisition to consistently attract and retain top talent.
- Monitor programs and policies to continuously improve effectiveness.
- Work closely with the Corporate HR team to provide monthly reports, and headcount updates.
- Act as a role model for professionalism and integrity when representing the company internally and externally.
- Fostering positive working relationships between management and unions.
- Ensuring effective functioning of Union/Management committee.
- Advising on interpretation and administration of collective agreements and workplace legislation.
- Providing leadership and expertise in areas including workplace conflict, employee conduct, performance management, progressive discipline, termination, attendance, contingency planning, etc.
- Responding to and investigating grievance matters/breaches including compiling evidence, preparing positions, acting as representative, using legal resources effectively, attending hearings and providing counsel to witnesses.
- Negotiating resolutions/settlements, implementing resolutions and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
- Researching and analyzing trends/data impacting Labour Relations, recommending appropriate strategies and completing various surveys, audits and reporting requirements.
- Ensuring management and employee training on standards, procedures, guidelines, compliance requirements and materials to promote and sustain high performance on key labour relations metrics.
- Ensuring effective communication of grievance and arbitration outcomes, as well as relevant legal developments.
- Chair the social committee.
- Managed policies and processes surrounding all types of leave and administering and maintaining efficient follow up and return to work assistance.
- Conduct awareness sessions for staff on Entitlements and policies as needed.
- Provide Ad hoc reports and data collection as needed.
Qualifications:
- Four-year degree in Human Resources with specialization in Labour Relations or relevant combination of education and experience.
- CHRL designation.
- Minimum 5+ years – Labour Relations Manager experience or Senior Generalist background experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Bilingual (English/French) is a strong asset.
- Proven problem-resolution and decision-making skills.
- Able to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Goal and results oriented.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven discretion and sensitivity to confidential information.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
