Materials Manager _ Automotive Industry

Our client is a leading automotive manufacturing company. We are looking Materials Manager who will be responsible to manage all aspects of material flow and to maintain control and accuracy over all goods inventories, including all modes of transportation, scheduling, planning, procurement, cost, warehousing, receiving and shipping to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled on time.

Location: Markham, ON

Salary Range: $80K-$100K

Candidates Must Have:      

  • At least partial completion of APICS or CPIM
  • 8+ years’ experience as a materials manager using an ERP system responsible for:
    • Production scheduling; Vendor scheduling-- Purchasing
    • Materials movement
    • Experience with both customer and vendor EDI (ideally automotive EDI)
    • Experience with assembly and stamping (coiled steel)

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Develop, Implement and manage cross-functional, fully integrated ERP/MRP process that incorporates make verses buy, scheduling, capacity planning, and inventories of material and associated cost elements.
  • Perform analysis of customer demand, sales forecast and historical material usage to develop and execute build to order and build to forecast plans.  Not build to stock levels.
  • Advise other department managers of any potential problems, concerns and opportunities for improvement and prepares customer delivery reports by collecting, analysing and summarizing information to proactively communicate potential late deliveries.
  • Manage system to evaluate, monitor and report supplier performance.
  • Coordinate and work with quality, engineering, maintenance, Toolroom, and assembly operations to ensure 100% on-time delivery by establishing and monitoring schedules to proactively identify and address any issues.
  • Responsible for accuracy of inventory counts by implementing and managing, in conjunction with Finance an inventory control system, capable of identifying discrepancies in physical inventory counts, cycle counts and taking corrective action to guard against inconsistencies in the future.
  • Aid in the sourcing of all materials, components, outside processes, and contracts.
  • Keep informed on the latest changes to Customs Procedures and inform other department and employees, especially in regards to NAFTA and the Automotive Trade Agreement
  • Work in compliance with TS16949 Standards. In the event of receiving a customer concern (verbal or electronic) while on shift duty, issues customer/concern report and includes Production Manager and QA Manager in distribution. Depending to the magnitude of concern may contact the Production Manager and/or QA Manager at home using the contact list.
     

Basic Requirements:

  • Completion of a Community College Diploma or a University Degree. A professional designation in either Materials or Purchasing ( i.e. APICS certification, CPIM; C.P.P.)
  • 7 to 10 years Materials or Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment that may be similar to the automotive industry.
  • Good working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent problem solving techniques and methods.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees both within the organization and with, customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, engineers, etc.
  • Computer skills in the area of: Manufacturing Control Systems (SAP), Windows, Word processing, Spreadsheets, E-mail, MS Project, Access and other databases.
