Mechanical Engineer

Our client, a fast-growing engineering resources company, is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to join the team. 

The role will be responsible to generate custom machinery designs for mechanical projects, responsible for interacting with other supporting departments and suppliers to ensure successful launch of new products and to ensure all supporting elements are completed to allow the transfer of ownership to production.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design mechanical component parts and assemblies for stand-alone systems and integration into mechanical and electro-mechanical products.
  • Analyze the manufacturability and cost of mechanical systems.
  • Interactions with clients to provide customer support and product development.
  • Design and deliver a complete work package including 3D modelling, detailed GD&T drawings, tolerance analysis and Bill of Material creation.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to develop theoretical concepts into functional prototypes.
  • Assist or lead the build of prototype assemblies to test functionality, analyze the ease of assembly, troubleshoot as necessary and summarize results.
  • Develop, review and release product documentation for parts and assemblies consistent with documentation guidelines.
  • Provide technical support to released products to improve field reliability and ease of maintenance.
  • Work within a continuous improvement framework to improve product designs with an emphasis on product cost, product reliability and design for manufacturability.
  • Manage inventory and purchasing of raw materials, supplies and parts.
  • Assist in day to day manufacturing operations.
  • Work closely with suppliers for quotes and ensure quality and delivery dates are met.
  • Developing assembly procedures and other manufacturing documentation.
  • Design manufacturing fixtures and mechanical parts as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering degree with 2-5 years of experience, plastics industry experiences preferred.
  • Knowledge of different manufacturing processes, Plastic injection/Blow moulding experience is an asset.
  • Effective project management skills. Solid understanding of overall project engineering and project management procedures (APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, quality standards, PPAP, cost tracking).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software, Solidworks, CATIA.
  • Fluent communication skills internally and externally with customers and suppliers in English.
  • Experience in mechanical designs related to medical products would be an asset
  • Must be able to travel locally and may require periodic travel internationally.
