Head of Sanitation

Our client, a fast growing beauty manufacturing company, is looking for a head of sanitation to join their team.

Location: Etobicoke, ON,

Shift: Day shift, flexible to work other schedule when needed.

Salary: up to $115K

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage, motivate and provide direct leadership to the sanitation department
  • Recommend and implement corrective and preventive measures to improve plant sanitation, employee hygienic practices, and product safety
  • Manage materials, procedures, and implement operational safety guidelines
  • Sound knowledge of Environmental monitoring and cleaning validation requirements.
  • Interface with inspectors: Report immediately any discrepancies; recommend corrective actions; recommend preventative measures (FDA, ISO, AIB etc.)
  • Maintains, develops, evaluates, recommends and implement SSOP’s and GMP’s, process control programs, tests and guidelines
  • Oversee the cleaning and sanitization of equipment, surfaces, utensils and plant environment by providing direction, working ‘hands on’ to motivate and provide technical support to all sanitation employees and other plant employees as required
  • Plant sanitation requirements and activities by establishing priorities, scheduling, assigning work and communicating with sanitation staff and key stakeholders frequently and regularly within stipulated timelines
  • Audit and report non-compliance and take corrective actions to assure compliance to regulatory and safety requirements per internal procedures
  • Plan, actively engage, communicate and provide direction with respect to Sanitation and related activities in all programs such as Quality Assurance, HACCP, Employee Relations, Health and Safety Programs etc.
  • Create and implement Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and participate in audits
  • Accountable for the result and action plan of sanitation audits
  • Hire, orientate, train (one on one, or group training), develop, coach, discipline, respond to employee suggestions and concerns, provide feedback, administer sanitation employee time and attendance records and recognize employees in a timely manner
  • Develop and execute training to meet all job requirements and ensure employee compliance with all company and regulatory requirements
  • Order, manage inventory and safely store sanitation agents and cleaning substances
  • Support and promote the company’s health and safety program, maintain a safe working environment and ensure continued compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and JHSC recommendations
  • Assures the company that the process is within ISO 22716 requirements and compliance
  • Reviews microbiological data and provides solutions to deviations from standards
  • Working with QA department to make adjustments to the master sanitation program to eliminate deficiencies
  • Maintains and develops partnerships with outside vendors to ensure a high level of service to include but not limited to chemical, pest control and grounds maintenance
  • Provide support to the sanitation effort throughout the organization
  • Conduct ATP and allergen testing and develop corrective actions as necessary
  • Good understanding of Quality Management Systems related to Cosmetic Industry
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or related field is required
  • 7 + years of production or sanitation experience is required, preferably in a food or pharmaceutical related manufacturing environment
  • 4 + years of leadership or managerial experience is required
  • Must be a demonstrated leader who easily interacts with others and is adept at leading and motivating a team to meet demands established by the schedule
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication (written and verbal) skills, along with simple mathematical abilities
  • Accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to detect the presence of a sanitation issue
  • Familiar with internal and external inspections
  • Ability to manage difficult people and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Flexible to workdays, afternoons, nights & weekends if needed
  • Working knowledge of GMP's, HACCP, BRC & O.H.S.A required
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
