Press Assistant - Scarborough, ON

Our client in the leading printing and graphic designing company is hiring for Press Assistants to start ASAP.

Shift:

  1. Monday to Friday - Afternoon  (3 PM to 2:30 AM)
  2. Friday to Sunday - Day: 12 Hour Shifts

POSITION PURPOSE

To assist the Press Operators and Rewind/Inspectors in the production and finishing of customer orders. Prepare dockets for printing and finishing. Provide and return unused supplies and materials. Ensure good housekeeping and safety practices are consistently followed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepare dockets for printing by trimming and mounting printing plates, retrieving required raw
materials and dies and tooling. Operate hand truck, as needed.
2. Provide needed press-side supplies (e.g. rags, paper flags) and ensure additives are full (e.g.
acetate, alcohol, reducer, soap, etc.). Cut and provide cores to Press Operators, as needed.
3. Follow Press Operator instructions before, during and after each print job.
4. Clean, inspect and change blades, as required.
5. Clean and wash press tooling, ink stations and printing plates, as required.
6. Put plates into the docket, put docket with finished jobs and stage on pallets for rewind/inspection.
7. Remove and properly store leftover material, ink and other supplies.
8. Remove, clean and store used Anilox roles and dies following proper procedures.
9. Remove and dump scrap, waste and garbage into the compactor.
10. Maintain printing press area by cleaning up spills, wiping surfaces, floors and areas around the press.
11. Inspect and maintain a clean, safe and organized walking and work areas, benches, storage and
common areas at all times by wiping, sweeping and mopping, as required.
12. Dispose of rags, chemicals and materials in accordance with internal safety and housekeeping
guidelines.
13. Complete Press Assistant checklist before, during or after each shift.
14.Conduct/perform all tasks in accordance with all Health and Safety and other Company policies and
procedures. Wear personal protective equipment, as prescribed.
15. Perform all other duties, as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  •  Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. periodically.
  •  Extended periods of standing, bending and walking.
  •  Able to stand/walk the majority of the day.
  •  Hand and arm dexterity to make adjustments to equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed high school diploma. Additional training and certification in office systems is preferred.
  • Completed post-secondary education is an asset.
  • Excellent relationship management skills. Builds credibility and trust by capably following through
    on commitments.
  • Intermediate or higher levels of literacy and proficiency with reading, writing and arithmetic skills.
  • Able to perform material handling duties by operating a hand-truck and forklift, if licensed.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Attentive to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines and tactfully handle stressful
    situations.
  • High level of initiative. Able to work independently and be self-directed and self-motivated.
  • Strong work ethic, integrity and positive attitude.
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
