Our client, a a market leader in baking technology and frozer to oven manufacturer, is looking for a Research and Development Technologist to join their QC/QA/Product Development team.

Summary: The R&D Technologist primarily supports the R&D team to develop and commercialize high quality products, as well as performing routine physical and chemical tests on bakery products and ingredients.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with the development of high quality sweet and savoury bakery and snack products
- Support customer and production trials
- Work with the team to support continuous improvement initiatives for ingredients and processes
- Conduct product analysis, sensory evaluation, batching and sample preparation
- Prepare demonstration samples and prototypes for customers as requested by the Projects team
- Keep track of industry developments, actively network within the industry
- Maintain document control for formulations, SQF and raw materials
- Keep the product development lab in a state of general order and cleanliness
- Other R&D duties as required from time to time
- Ensure all Health and Safety procedures and policies are followed; ensure compliance with H&S requirements
- Participate in all Health and Safety, GMP and HACCP training as required
- Report any accidents, incidents and unsafe/hazardous conditions to your leadhand/supervisor
- Report any damages of property and machinery to your leadhand/supervisor
Physical Demands
- May be required to stand/sit for long periods of time while frequently bending, stooping or squatting
- Must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions which include extreme heat, humidity and cold
- Must be able to work in tight or enclosed spaces
- May involve repetitive motions such as computer work/typing
Job Requirements:
- Post secondary diploma/degree in Food Science or a related field
- 2+ years experience in a similar role would be considered an asset
- Pastry experience is a definite asset
- Experience in a Food Manufacturing environment (HACCP)
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize on a regular basis with strong computer skills
- Ability to evaluate, discuss and/or form an opinion of laboratory test results
- Must be able to work independently with a high degree of self initiative
